Getting Readers

Published by Tamsen Butler at 2:48 pm under The Logistics of Writing Edit This

I sometimes post little snippets of my novel on my MySpace page so my friends can get a look at how the story is going.  I don’t put the whole story on there, but any time I write something that I think is particularly well written or clever I post it to see what kind of reaction I can get from the readers.  Then again, I once read that if you ever think something you wrote is particularly clever then chances are, it’s not.

Anyhow, I really enjoy having people read the bits of the story I put up.  The feedback I receive is great, and it’s nice to know that the story is actually getting read by people instead of just collecting dust within the depths of my computer’s hard drive (metaphorically, of course).

When I took a short hiatus from writing I started to get some e-mails and phone calls from some of my friends who were wondering when I was going to get back to work.  If I had to compose a list of things that I think are really cool, having people ask me to write more of my novel ranks pretty darn high.

Would I be as motivated to write if I didn’t know there were people waiting for the next installment? I’m not sure.  I know there are some people who write stories and then keep the stories to themselves, but I guess I’m an extrovert at heart.

Perhaps I should entitle my book, “Look at Me! Look at Me!”
