TV: The Inspiration Killer
I can’t tell you how many times I have sat down to write but for one reason or another I switched on the television and got so involved in watching something really stupid that I didn’t write anything at all, or at least did not write nearly as much as I should have. You would think I’d have learned by now that switching on the TV is one of the worst things I can do when I’m trying to find inspiration, but sometimes I just want to relax and not think. TV is perfect for that.
It’s not like I watch anything too intellectually stimulating either. I’m watching stuff that is pretty much worthless, but it’s entertaining.
My television stopped working one night, and I was actually pretty thrilled about the whole thing. I have a TV upstairs, but the downstairs TV is the one I watch after the kids are in bed and that’s the one that broke. I didn’t get it fixed for a couple of months, and believe me when I say those were the most productive writing months I have ever had.
If I didn’t have a TV my book would probably be finished by now.
Stinking TV.

I know, I don’t think I’m a stupid person but I naturally gravitate toward the stupid channels. I watched practically the entire season of Rock of Love 2. Why? If we lived before TV, man, both of us would be big names in literature.
Good luck with that novel,
