I love the Internet. I hate the Internet.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Internet. Most of my writing is Internet-based, so without it I would be out of a job. On the other hand, sometimes it gets really hard to get some work done when I know there is plenty of interesting stuff out there to read and surf through. Many times I’ve paused in thought while writing an article only to find myself twenty minutes later looking at stuff online that does me no good whatsoever. It’s as if I don’t even realize I start surfing the Internet until I’m twenty minutes into it.
Apparently, the Internet is amnesia-inducing.
I love the Internet for many reasons. I’ve moved quite a bit, so the Internet had proven a fantastic medium for cathing up with old friends. I find my jobs online. I do research for a lot of my writing online.
I detest the Internet for a few reasons. It sucks up time. It’s hard to know for sure the reliability of some of the stuff online. It’s so easy to find conflicting information online, and a lot of it is veiled as factual. That annoys me to no end.
All in all, I dig the Internet. I’m not sure how well I could function without it nowadays, although I do remember sifting through card catalogs at the library to find books.
Yes, youngins, that’s how we did it back in the day. I believe that’s called “Kicking research old school.”
I did manage to write this whole post without stopping to browse the net, by the way. Hooray for small victories.
