Happy Birthday, My Little Man
On Monday my son will be three years old. He’s my youngest child and a constant source of amusement and inspiration to me. Sometimes when I feel like I just can’t write another word I think about how a successful writing career equals working from home, which equals being there for all the field trips and stuff that will come about when my kids start school. Then I keep writing.
He’s kept me from my work too. Many times I’ve tried to work while he’s been playing and he’ll walk up to me and bat those eyelashes and look at me with those big blue eyes and then he’ll say, “Turn off the ‘puter, Mommy.” There’s no resisting this kid.
So my second little inspiration isn’t so incredibly little anymore. We’ve said goodbye to diapers and goodbye to the toddler bed and in September he’ll start preschool. I don’t know whether to cheer because I’ve successfully raised him for this long or to cry like a banshee because I can still remember what it felt like to cuddle him in my arms when he was a newborn.
Perhaps I’ll do a little bit of both.
