Don’t Pay for Work

Published by Tamsen Butler at 8:32 am under Other Musings Edit This

Online writers are usually available in abundance, so it’s no wonder that the best jobs get snatched up pretty quickly.  It can be pretty frustrating when you’re first starting out because it may seem like no matter what you do you can’t seem to get your hands on writing jobs that pay decently.

Some writers turn to online services where they have to pay a fee in order to access the job bank.  I guess they hope that there will be better jobs on these boards than in the other places they can look online.  I’m not sure if the jobs are better because I’ve never used them.  With so many ways to find writing jobs online, why in the world would you want to pay to get access to postings?

Do you want to find an online writing job? Look here.

Do you want to find a blogging job? Look here.

…and while I’m at it….

Do you want to get paid to post on forums?  Apply here.

Do you want to get paid for doing restaurant and hotel evaluations? Apply here.

Do you want to get paid for doing online surveys?  Apply here.

I’ve been involved in all of these at one time or another and all of them are legitimate.  Stop paying money to get what I just gave you for free.

Or better yet, just send me the money.

This is a great post. I’m always amazed when freelance writers accept work for no pay thinking that it will give them great exposure. That exposure promise is the oldest line in the book.

Thanks, Dan. It’s one thing to write for free if it’s a topic you love, but I’ve seen some writers tackle some really horrible topics all in the name of potential exposure.

Tamsen, you are AWESOME! I hope I will have more time to write in the coming months, since my kids will be in school.

    You inspire me!

My kids start preschool next week so I’m hoping to get some serious writing done too. Thanks!
