If you’re going to blog, then blog.

Every so often it happens…I get an e-mail from a friend or acquaintance announcing the unveiling of their new blog.  It all sounds pretty much the same in every announcement I get.  Most of them feign reluctance as though someone is forcing them at gun point to join the ranks of bloggers (”I guess it’s about time I started up a blog, sigh.”) but I think we all know if you’re writing a blog and you aren’t getting paid for it then you’re doing it for one of two reasons:

1.  You have something interesting to say.

2.  You want somewhere to put your random ramblings.

I’m always game to check out people’s new blogs, especially when the blog is written by someone who I haven’t really been in contact with for some time because it’s interesting to see how people’s perspectives can change over the years.  The thing I really don’t understand, however, is how people can take all the time to set up a blog, make an announcement to everyone in their address book, and then only make one or two posts and not bother to reply to any comments at all.

Dude, if you’re going to blog, then blog.

If you don’t have the chutzpah to make blog posts on a regular basis and have ongoing conversations with your readers then maybe you shouldn’t take the time to try to compel everyone you know to visit your site.  Just quietly build up your blog until you’re ready to reveal it to your adoring fans.  If you’re going to send me to your site to check it out, at least have something there.

I started my own personal blog back in 2005, and there are times when I write daily in it, and others where it sets there because of other blogs I write for. My ramblings are just slower now. Thanks for stopping by!

Nothing wrong with a break here and there, especially when you have the blog for a while. It’s when folks try to get me to their site and then there’s nothing to see…that’s what bugs me.

I think I may sound more ticked off about this than I actually am…. :D

I have the rather fortunate curse (or torturous blessing or any other paradoxical concept you can think of) of feeling like I can’t stop thinking of things to write about in my own blog. I mean, currently, right now, I’ve got two more posts in my head that just won’t go away until I write them down :-). Crazy, am I?–abso-freakin-lutely.

That’s awesome. That is indeed a fortunate curse!

I tend to surf around to see if I can find blogs I like…but I’ve deleted feeds when nothing is happening. I hate to take the time to check out a blog only to see exactly the same message from a month ago!

I agree. If I’m ever going to be away from my blog for a while I make sure the last post tells people when I’ll be back.
