Searching for Images

Published by Tamsen Butler at 5:32 pm under Other Musings Edit This

If you’re like me and do a lot of online writing then you know the process involved with searching for images to accompany articles and posts.  If you don’t write online then here is a quick synopsis:

1.  You finish writing a piece and go to an online image source to search for a picture.

2.  You search using terms that match your article.  For example, for an article about debt consolidation I might search for images using the keyword “credit” or “debt.”

3.  You sift through the options and then download the most appropriate one.

Sounds pretty boring, right? Actually, it can get very interesting when you’re writing something that can yield some funny results.  I wrote some articles for a tattoo website and had to sift through some pretty risque photos.  The most notorious instance, however, was when I wrote an article for an exercise website entitled Naked ExerciseYou can imagine the stuff I had to wade through in order to find an appropriate image.

I guess freelance photography is really taking off since there are so many online writers like me looking for images to accompany our writing.  Rest assured there are plenty of photographers running around filling up the websites that offer free stock images.  You can find pretty much anything you’re looking for, and in most cases all people want is credit for the photo and sometimes want links to their sites.

To all you freelance photographers providing free images to people like me, I applaud you.
